I Am the People
Like many others, I am guilty of walking past the artworks we saw on campus today. I loved the idea of Wopo Holup’s Intersections the most. Starting from the owl which symbolizes wisdom and enlightenment to the quotes and drawings, I thought everything was beautifully put together. My favorite quote among the words and drawing is “I am the people, the mob, the crowd, the mass” by Carl Sandburg. I recognized this quote at once because it is from his poem I am the People, the Mob. The poem is mainly about hard working people, especially laborers, who work to build a small building to a great nation. Small or big, each worker contributes to the public and to his or her country. The laborers are important and essential to anything and everything. This quote embodies that whole idea. Us students and faculty of Lehman College are the people, the mob, and the mass. If we decide to work together, not only can we create, but also leave a lasting impact anywhere. Whether it is small as recycling a water bottle or as big as reducing CO2 emissions, we can do it.
