The Process
I found the “Where I’m From” project very interesting. It was nice to look back at pictures and all the memories. I liked that I was ultimately framing my life into artwork, which I very much appreciated. It’s nice to take a step back and see where you’ve been and what you’ve done. Memories are not always on our minds, but when you see pictures of old friends and family, you get a sense of nostalgia and warmth from their love.
I learned a lot from this project, actually. I learned that there is something poetic about everyone’s lives, and the fact that we can see each others’ perspectives and backgrounds creates vulnerability, and it brings us closer to know each other better. I learned that my life has been wonderful, and I only need to see this video when I’m having a bad day for inspiration. It is a creation out of my heart, and putting everything together was a privilege. I have been making youtube videos since I was in middle school, and was glad to put my rusty skills to use. I also used a song from my childhood, “From This Moment On” by Shania Twain because my parents always played her songs when I was a toddler in the Philippines. It was a great way for everyone to tell our stories and see their personality through their artwork. I put mostly happy memories obviously, but the bad memories exist, too, and I admire the people who were able to be completely open about it. I’ve been through many hardships in life, but I feel like I do not come from the times I fell, but the times I got up. I chose to leave a lot out to maintain a specific mood in my video, but it also made me see that that all the good times made the bad times less painful.
