Is this the end? Or not?
At the very ending of the book, Squarzoni talks about the three things he knows ; How there is a way of saving ourselves from the worse of climate change, how that time is slowly decreasing, and how even if we had the choice, we wouldn’t choose to save ourselves, but rather continue onto our lives the way it is. It is the bitter truth that most of us would continue to live the way it is, with some minor changes. But the hope is that maybe, it will catch on. I think he purposedly left the ending open to his readers. Just because he believes it that way, doesn’t mean we have to follow it. For all we know, his book might inspire some of us to provide efforts against climate change.
Squarzoni’s book is mostly factual and real. He means to scare us in order for us to do something. At least he has shown there are worst thing in the world than our lack of money to pursue material goods. He asks us: what kind of legacy do we want for our kids? The barren destroyed earth or the world that we saved? I think that answer is pretty clear.
