Is It Really That Simple?
After reading the ending of Climate Changed, I was very surprised that Al Gore was able to confidently say that “we will ultimately prevail” in fighting climate change. From a technological and economic standpoint, Gore’s claim makes sense. He does a great job at pointing out the increasing efforts to create more clean and inexpensive energy. Upon reading this, I couldn’t help but wonder, “If technology is not the issue, what is?” From what I recall from the article(correct me if I’m wrong), Al Gore did not mention the issue of consumption like Squarzoni did. Squarzoni stated that clean energy would only be effective if our society significantly reduced its consumption. As comforting and assuring as Al Gore’s article was, I feel like he neglected to speak about other aspects of the issue. If Al Gore had addressed issues like over consumption, I would be more accepting of his optimism.
