Response to “Call to Arms”
Frankly, after reading this article, I makes me wonder what I have been doing and how much I can give up just to make a better world for future generations. McKibben had made a very passionate point about why people needs to rise to the occasion and change the way and the world we live in. He describes how if no one takes action, it will become a self fulling prophecy because there is already a feeling that nothing will change in time. Also, he stated that the difference between “we’re all sitting ducks” and “we do not face a crisis” is the gap between an attempt of acting like we care and an actual noticeable difference in saving the planet. He shows to us that this is our responsibility and because we are so young, we have more than enough power to change the world together. Especially, if we take action now, it will permeate through other aspects of our culture and society. Sure enough, it is hard to change because we grown up so comfortable surrounding ourself with our technology that requires fossil fuels, but the payoff if we switch off to renewable energy step by step now is worth so much more. It not only means that we will ensure better environment for our kids, but also a planet that we can actually live on.
