“One Planet, One Chance.” – C.Ng

Of this whole video, many quotes stood out to me; this is just naming a few.

This opening quote of the video is that “climate change will not announce itself as an apocalyptic event, climate change is a silent war that has already begun.”  This quote is actually really powerful to me because it speaks volumes to how prevalent this issue is in our modern world.  Climate change is not an issue that will make a big change all at once and it is not an issue that will make itself known that way tsunamis or hurricanes will.  Natural disasters like tsunamis and hurricanes are quickly noticed and quickly acted upon because the immediate repercussions are loud and prevalent.  Climate change is a silent weapon and a ticking time bomb where you won’t feel the repercussions until it may be too late. I think this is important because not many people realize its severity or want to acknowledge its existence as a whole.

Another quote that I think is important is that “the planet is giving every indication that is can no longer support our habits. Peak oil, mass extinction, catastrophic climate change.  With every passing day, the signs become more and more difficult to deny.  But we deny them anyway.”  This is describing the way society is dealing with climate change.  People use the argument that because we can’t see the immediate repercussions that its not as serious as some make it out to be.  This quote is saying that the signs are becoming more and more serious and prevalent and the proof is becoming more and more solid and noticeable.  However its the ignorance and the unwillingness of the people that keep this issue at bay.  We don’t want to believe that its true and we don’t want to believe that the mere warming of the world can lead to catastrophic repercussions so we put it off as we continue to live our technology filled lives of leisure.

Some might argue that this video is nothing but propaganda but I disagree completely.  Whether for the positive or the negative, propaganda is an exaggeration of something for public response.  While this video does a great job of provoking a reaction from the public, I don’t think its because its propaganda.  I think its because this video is a smack in the face of reality toward society.  I feel as though we want to think that this is propaganda and that climate change is not as bad as this video made it out to be.  However, I think this video is accurate in portraying the consequences of climate change and the denial of it is just our way of coping with our shock at its severity.
