The Sunshine after the Snow
A grandma stands on the snow, with the snow hitting on her face. A harsh cold winter attacks one family in Yamal Peninsula. The grandma waits, hopes, and looks for one thing: the sun. The sunlight is hindered by the snow storm, only giving its minimum amount of light to the family. But, she still stands there, patiently waiting for the sunshine to shine down on them. It’s a moment of solitude.
But, it’s not merely a moment of solitude. It also depicts a moment of togetherness. In the hut, a warm smoke comes out. The family cooks and makes fire to keep themselves warm. In there, there are small chats, laughters, baby crying, mom calming down the baby, and playfulness of children. They are all waiting for the only hope: the sun. They yearn for the sun to rise up bright, defeating the snow storm.
I loved looking at this painting because of its great beauty in contrast of light. The picture is alive, capturing all the moments that sebastio salgado saw. What a beautiful day with Salgado’s pictures. It woke me up.
