The Disaster Scenario
Was I the only one really bummed out by this section? Granted I was reading the book at like 12 in the morning, but honestly? The scientists talking about how we could already be past the point of no return, and that even if we stop what we are doing now that it might not help. We are on a slippery slope with no brakes. I mean they had a point. With all of the politics involved it’s no wonder we haven’t even attempted to cut our emissions in half. But even if we did, would it have helped? Ugh! There are so many questions! And then there’s the permafrost issue. You know, where if the globe warms any more, the permafrost will start to melt and a massive quantity of CO2 and methane gas will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Not to be melodramatic or anything. Albeit, there was the fact that with the permafrost melting, there would be more fertile land for vegetation to grow. However, the chances of that balancing out the damage we’ve already done are quite slim.
So If I have thoroughly depressed you, as I am sure I’ve done to myself, goodnight :/
