Flaws in NYC’s Recycling System: A Study of Underprivileged Neighborhoods

Our project studies the issue of inequity when it comes to recycling in New York City and how it contributes to the overall low recycling rate of the city.

From looking at Open Data of NYC, we found that there were trends in the diversion rates of certain districts that were tied to the socioeconomic conditions of that district. We compiled data to show this trend and we also researched reasons why this trend occurs and potential solutions.
