Experiencing the Bohemian Lifestyle

This 2005 American musical drama film won eight Tony Awards/Drama Desk Awards. It takes place in the East Village of New York City from 1989 to 1990, and depicts the lives of several Bohemians and their struggles with sexuality, drugs, paying their rent, and life under the shadow of AIDS.

We first introduced Rent by by defining a bohemian: a socially unconventional person, especially one who is involved in the arts.​ We then discussed the setting and themes behind the film and how they depicted the lives of several bohemians and their struggles with sexuality, drugs, paying their rent, and life under the shadow of AIDS in the East Village of New York City from 1989 to 1990.​

After that, we talked about the creation process, Jonathan Larson’s adaptation, music, and the morals and lessons to take from the musical. We ended our presentation with a Minecraft adaptation of the engagement reception.
