Pandemic Playlist: The Calm and the Concerned
Nadzeya Fliaha
The randomness of the playlist was almost random of 2020, and it embodies some of the prevalent emotions in my day to day life. I would have spurts of motivation to get things done and I would also have down time and experience the self reflection brought about with quarantine. I think in quarantine, people struggled the most with finding balance. My version of balance was listening to different types of music to match my mood.
Song Name: Megalovania
Found this song 3 days ago and it’s been on loop ever since. I’ve never played Undertale, but apparently this song stands for one of the hardest endings in the game where the main boss says “You are gonna have a hard time” which is what all of 2020 was about.
Song Name: Overtime
Jazzy sounding song about working a lot. For me there was no separation between school and rest because I was in my room all day either sleeping, studying, or doing homework.
Song Name: Dirty
Upbeat song about ‘people needing healing’ addresses all of the crazy stuff happening in the quarantine, and how much everyone is addicted to technology (including myself).
Song Name: Ain’t It Fun
Song about growing up and getting exposed to the real world. 2020 is definitely a massive wakeup call for a lot of us.
Song Name: You’ve Got a Friend In Me
Lighter song about knowing it’ll all be ok in the future. Very calming, nostalgic, and I love the rag-time piano version of it.
Song Name: foreverland
Light and relaxing song I used to get through those long periods of studying. <3
Song Name: a stormy night
From the same playlist as foreverland, just one of those comforting songs. I loved watching Avatar the Last Airbender series as a kid on Cartoon Network. This song was changed a little from the main theme song. Playing off of nostalgic comfort.
Song Name: a vision
Very calm song, slightly melancholic. It’s one of those songs you listen to in order to feel a little sad but comfortable. I call it “controlled sadness.”
Song Name: unknown waters
The same type of slightly melancholic study music as “a vision”. A lot of internet jokes said that with each month, the world would be getting closer to the end of the world like some uncharted territory. I found this song reminiscent of this uncertainty.
Songs from the Studio Ghibli Cello Collection
I LOVEEEE this collection of songs, it’s very versatile. I listened to it while studying, relaxing, or even cleaning. Definitely calmed me down when I wasn’t in a good mood.
