A Keystone Species is in Danger

We delved into Antarctic krill as a keystone species and how climate change, along with human activities, are disrupting their ecosystem and could eventually cause several species extinctions.

This project was completed by Teague Dilgen, Suraj Patel, Anna Speck, and Linqi Zhou.

Human activities have impacted ecosystems that we often don’t consider in many ways. A prime example of this is the Nova Scotia seas, surrounding Antartica. One specific species is extremely important, but overfishing, warming sea temperatures, and loss of sea ice are putting its future in danger—Antarctic krill is a keystone species whose population needs to be protected.
