Global Warming and the Increase in International Malaria Cases

Our project researched the relationship between rising global temperatures and international malaria cases. We were curious about the effects of global warming beyond its impact on weather and rising sea levels. We hypothesized that the global infection rate of malaria has increased over the last 20 years due to the effects of climate change. Since mosquitos are more prevalent in warmer climates and the malarial parasite is transmitted via mosquitos, we believed that global rising temperatures may increase the geographical distribution of malaria.
