Light Pollution, How it Affects Us, the Environment, and How to Limit it
Leah Ahdoot, Hammad Siddiqui, Jonathan Kogan, and Jake Levy present a project about how light pollution in New York City is affecting your health and well-being. Artificial light exposure has been linked to increased rates of cancer due to negative impacts on circadian rhythms that manage melatonin production, a vital protein that helps with tumor suppression. A light map of the Northeast United States shows New York in the white section as an area with extreme light pollution. We want to bring attention to the environment in New York City and what the government and us as individuals should be doing to be as safe as possible. Try your best to put your phone away thirty minutes before bed and going to sleep at the same time every night to maintain a proper sleep-wake cycle.
