The Collector of Prints, 1866 by Edgar Degas

The Collector of Masks, 2020 is a contemporary interpretation of French Impressionist painter, Edgar Degas’ The Collector of Prints, 1866.

Materials: surgical face masks, pink hair dye, vintage luggage, black hat, long coat, wine bottles, wicker basket, potted plants, kitchen

The essence of The Collector of Prints was sustained through the aesthetic and our depiction of introspection. The reality of isolation as a lonely fortress of solitude can be seen in both paintings. However, the shift from darkness to light our rendition shows that there can be beauty in quarantine and an opportunity for self-expression.
