Mental Health in the COVID Era

The pandemic has surely taken a toll on everyone’s health, but has it affected some more than others? We dove into the mental health of Americans of differing ages.

The past eleven months have forever revolutionized our every way of being – especially regarding our mental health. Science Forward allowed us to dig deeper into what impact the coronavirus has had thus far. Data from a CDC study reporting indicators of anxiety and depression between populations of Americans 18-29 years old and 60-69 years old were compared to data on COVID-19 case counts. We compiled and analyzed this data by weeks throughout
the course of the pandemic; finding not only that COVID-19 cases rose in proportion to a decrease in mental health but that the population of 18-29 years of age was more affected than the population 60-69 years of age.

  1. I think this is such an interesting topic because this situation is so unlike anything anyone alive today has really witnessed. It is sad to see the mental health of so many people decline as the pandemic continues. It will be interesting to see if the cases of anxiety and depression decline once the pandemic ends, or if people’s mental health will be permanently impacted by this pandemic.
