This website is home to the French-American Cultural Exchange website. I stumbled upon this after reading the New York Times article in the previous post. Prior to that, I did not know such a foundation existed. So here is to more information and active promotion of French culture in the U.S. This foundation is located in New York City, in the Upper East Side, just like the French Consulate. FACE has partnered up with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy to promote cultural exchange through grant programs and special projects in the arts and education.
The current programs at the front of the foundation’s initiatives are:
- Performing and Visual Arts
- There are grant programs in theater, dance, contemporary music, jazz, and contemporary art to support recent work of living artists, writers, and scholars. These grants also support collaborative projects between artists or institutions of the two countries. Some programs are the French U.S. Exchange in Dance and the French-American Jazz Exchange.
- Cinema
- Tournées Cinéma awards support to U.S. colleges and universities for French and Francophone film festivals. Over 400 campuses have held these film festivals, introducing French cinema and culture to more than 500,000 students.
- Films on the Green is the free outdoor French film screenings that take place weekly in NYC parks of different neighborhoods during the summer.
- Book
- French Voices is a grant-funded publication of translated works of French and Francophone authors whose work may be unknown to Americans.
- Secondary Education
- The Dual Language Program focuses on bilingual education in NYC public schools from kindergarten to high school.
- French Heritage Language Program gives French classes to families in underserved communities to help reestablish the native language in younger generations.
- Higher Education
- The Partner University Fund (est. 2007) allows French and American universities to collaborate to create new curriculum, research programs, and long projects in academic, technical, and scientific work.
