Transnational Ties

When the first waves of immigrants arrived in America, each group stuck together in communities and did their best to keep all of their traditions from their country alive, since some of them planned on returning anyways.  This was the beginning transnationalism, which is more evident today. It has always been around, but just because it is so much easier now to jump on a plane and pick up a phone it is more evident that it is occurring. All of the new technology makes it easier to keep up these ties, and allows them to last longer, at least with the first generation immigrants. Today, because more people want to remain in America, they lose touch with their culture and drift more towards becoming “American”.

These ties, however, definitely benefit the United States in many ways.  Since we have so many international relationships, it helps if people from their country live here. These ties strengthen the social, economic, and political aspects of our country with others. Even if those with certain people fade, because the bigger ties are now built, they will remain for a long time. From this we have developed a give and take between up and our fellow countries. If another country needs help, the United States has a certain responsibility to provide help because of these ties and visa versa.  We have seen this with many wars over the years. In these cases, as well as others, it has not been so beneficial to us. These instances have caused financial problems and conflicts with other countries. It all depends.

These transnational ties though, are responsible for the United States’ image as such a strong country. These ties have also helped newer immigrants coming to America. They have more knowledge about the culture and speaking English and are able to find their place in society easier than before. They have been more beneficial then not up till now, at least that’s what people believe, and we will continue to build these ties with the help of the new immigrants coming into our country.
