In Response

I previously posted about my thoughts on Menand’s Article. Today, in English class, we discussed our thoughts on college and a liberal arts education.

I wrote in my notebook that I think a liberal arts education opens our minds, helps us develop skills, and gives us a chance to discover our “true calling.”

The class took an interesting turn. My professor asked us how college gives us a voice, how it empowers us, etc. But the most interesting point of the discussion was when one student raised his hand and asked, “How does/can college teach you how to critically think? Critical thinking is something we’re all born with.”

Approximately an hour of debate and discussion. My memory has faded now. So, I cannot remember much of the details of the discussion that I want to point out. If I do remember, I shall update this entry.

Classes like this are riveting!
