I was born in New York to immigrant parents and my childhood was typical as can be. As a child, my mother dressed me up in odd-looking dresses. I skinned my knees while learning how to ride the bicycle. I collected pennies from around the house. I wanted to be “American,” whatever that label even meant. Through my quest to be American, I have learned that each person embodies a multitude of identities. Now, I am trying to delve more into my “Chinese” identity and am doing so by learning more about Chinese culture. Therefore, for this project I decided to choose a Chinese holiday.

I did my project on Qing Ming Festival. I decided to choose a more obscure holiday than Lunar New Year because this holiday contains a rich history and many influences from Daoist and Confucian beliefs. This festival has passed through a millennium and I wanted to research how the holiday maintained its lasting appeal despite different political agenda through the years.

I have learned a lot about Qing Ming, and I hope you will too!
