Shady Dawg Hot Dogs is relatively new to the food truck circuit, having been in existence since only 2014. It is a gastronomical contradiction of sorts, choosing to sell gourmet hot dogs. Generally hot dogs are considered “cheap” street food; however Shady Dawg aims to redefine the hot dog standard by including options such as provolone and steak or bacon marmalade and truffle aioli. Shady Dawg follows a similar schedule to Phil’s Steak; they park in Midtown for lunch, then head down to NYU for dinner. The truck hires workers similar to a restaurant rather than a family related business, which sets it apart from some of the other trucks in our project.
