Marine Park

I love living across the street from Marine Park! The park is 1.5 miles in perimeter, and within those 1.5 miles is provided a great variety of things to do. For one thing, Marine park has a biking and walking/jogging ring inside the park. The ring is split into two, dividing the bike ring and the walking ring, which makes for a safe environment. Here are pictures of some bikers; look how much fun they’re having!

The picture on the left is of a biker going along the outside of the park, and the picture on the right is of the inside bike ring. (On a side note, even though these children are not wearing helmets, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. The two lanes created for safety purposes do not guarantee that you will not lose control of you’re bike and fall on your face. Protective gear is a necessity. Also please do not try the stunt on the right at home. We are trained professionals.)

Another thing you can do in Marine Park that you can rarely do somewhere else is lay down in the beautiful grass and tan. The center of the park is wide open with no trees so that you can do this. In my opinion, the grass is a lot more comfortable than the sand at the beach so if I was you, I would come to marine park for all my tanning needs.

There’s also sprinklers for those of you who would like the full beach experience, and might I add that these are some of the prettiest sprinklers I have ever seen. They have an array of really cute ocean creatures. In the picture on the left we see the giant squid (this is a favorite of the children, because it shoots out the most water). Then we have the yellow submarine in the background. If you’re a Beetles fan, you will definitely want to get in on this! And finally, in the picture on the right, we see a bunch of oysters, which are not only pleasant to look at, but great substitutes for water fountains as you can see. I don’t know about you but I rather be drinking out of the oyster than out of the actual water fountains in Marine Park. (See picture below)

The fields of Marine Park and what you can do in them:

Another draw to Marine Park is that is has everything you need to play pretty much every sport there is to play. Marine Park has tennis courts, handball courts, racket ball courts, basketball courts, a soccer/football field, baseball fields, and a field to play any field games like Frisbee, Tag, etc. I honestly don’t know how it fits it all! :0

For little kids (and others who are physically incapable of playing organized sports), there’s a playground. The playground was recently rebuilt, and it has everything a kid needs to have fun. There’s a couple sets of monkey bars. Despite what the picture on the right might imply, there’s a lot of swings so kids don’t have to fight over them. There’s also a good amount of slides. The main attraction of the playground would have to be the giant pirate ship though. That’s where the kids with the big imaginations hang out.

If you like eating outside, Marine Park has plenty of picnic benches for your eating-outside needs.

Also, If you like the outdoors, there’s a Nature Center right across the street from Marine Park. It is one of the only places I know of in Brooklyn, where you can get a country experience. Walking along the rough gravel paths through The Nature Center is both adventurous and relaxing. It’s a place to go if you ever just want to get away from all the noise and chaos of city life.

Here is a video of my friend, Yana Kachalova, and I walking through The Nature Center in style:

One last stop you would definitely have to make while in Marine Park would be the infamous Uncle Louie G’s Italian Ice and Ice Cream Shop. (That is if the weather permits). They have a very wide variety of Italian ices, ice creams, and smoothies. I promise, you haven’t tried an Italian ice until you’ve tried Uncle Louie G.

Marine Park Neighborhood will bring out the child in you. Everyone in the neighborhood is friendly and welcoming, and if you’re ever in Brooklyn, do yourself a solid and come see it for yourself!
