Adding Video – Method 1

There are two ways to add videos to your pages.  You can either

1. upload to the site and use podpress, or
2. upload to Youtube and embed in Podpress

The following are instructions for the first of these methods.

==Upload video into your media library==

The media library is a collection of all of the media – pictures, videos, soundclips, etc – that you want to include on your pages.   When you upload to your media library you are copying a file from your hard drive onto the server’s hard drive.

To upload a file into the media library first click on the “Add Media” button directly above the text editor

Next click on the “Select Files” button and choose the file you wish to upload in the file dialog.  After you select the file, it will begin uploading.  Larger video and audio files may take a while, smaller files should be pretty quick.

After it’s uploaded you should see something like this:

Next copy the URL by selecting the entire text following “Link URL” and copying it by clicking on <Command> key (the one that looks like an Apple) and “C”.  (Note: if this were an image we could add it directly into our page by clicking on the “Insert Into Post” button.)

When you are done close the “Add Media” window.

==Add Video using pod-press==

Pod press is a nice little plug-in that let’s you add content of many different types.   Although pod press is designed to accomodate pod casting it can be used to place video and audio in your page.

To add the video using podpress, first click on the “Add Media File” button in the “Podcasting” box at the bottom of the page.

Move the cursor to the “Location:” box and past the Link URL from the preceeding step by clicking on <command> button and the “v” key.

When you move off the “Location: ” text box it should automatically set the type.  In the unlikely event that the type is not set automatically do so.

Update the page by clicking on the “Update” button near the top of the screen.  When you view the page you should see a  Macaulay logo (we can change this), and when you click on the logo the video should start playing.

==Change Location of Video==

By default the player shows at the bottom of the page, but in some cases you may want to show the video in your text.  To do this insert the text

[display_podcast]

anywhere in your page.  For example:

will appear as follows:

==Adding multiple videos==

To add more than one video click on the “Add Media” button at the bottom of the page.  “[display_podcast]” will show the videos in order so the first time [display_podcast] appears the first video will appear, the second time [display_podcast] appears the second video will apear, and so on.
