Music of Union Square Park
Art is everywhere. It reaches out from formal galleries and museums to the streets of New York. On my way to Wholefoods one afternoon in Union Square Park, I passed by a group of artists. They were in a corner of the park making beautiful music with different instruments. Some had guitars, a tambourine, drums, and others were just singing along or dancing. The scene was a kind of free-for-all. Nothing was planned, and different musicians could chime in randomly. It was awesome to see all different cultures coming together through their passion to make music. What was even more interesting was that they had a mini food station open to the public where people who couldn’t afford a meal could grab a bowl of rice while listening to the music. My experience really put things into perspective and made me appreciate the hidden forms of art found among the bustling streets of New York.

I think it’s interesting how you call it a hidden form of art, and I totally agree with you. I actually pass by them almost every time I go to Union Square! I never really stopped to think “this is art,” but it really is. I also agree with you that it’s pretty awesome. 🙂
This made me take a moment to think about all the art I probably passed by everyday.
oh man this is really what i like about NYC. These sorts of artistic jewels can only be found in the diverse and rat infested parks of NYC. Most of all is completely open to all aspiring musicians.
Something I appreciate a lot about NYC is the immense talent that seemingly regular people have, and the spontaneous performances of talented artists and musicians in public areas. These people really know how to take someone’s typical routine day and make it interesting and fun!
Union Square is the spot! It really is an amazing feeling to walk by moments like this and to see how much life these folks soak in. You can never give someone who’s bold enough to express themselves in such a way enough credit. And I love this flick; you can almost hear the music and feel the vibe of the atmosphere though the screen.
