Welcome to college in New York City! We are lucky to live and study in a city so well-known for its art and culture. In this course we will explore some of the city’s arts offerings as a means for you to develop your observation skills, build your analytic abilities, and practice writing and thinking about (mostly) contemporary art. Art is sometimes difficult to understand. Its abstractions, political engagements, aesthetic innovations, and controversies can confuse the untrained eye. Together we will try and make sense of some of the art moments taking place in our city. Along the way, we will hopefully develop not just an appreciation, but a love, for some of the creative intellectual experiments happening in our city.
