The Macaulay College Council is an important part of our governance structure. Due to the consortial structure of Macaulay, faculty eligibility to vote and serve on the College Council will vary year to year. The FAQ below explain eligibility, voting procedures, and the basic duties of Council members. The College Council inlcudes:
- The Dean
- The Associate Deans
- 10 faculty members elected annually by and from full-time faculty who:
- Are Macaulay consortial faculty
- Are teaching (or taught) a Macaulay course in the current academic year
- And taught a Macaulay course in the previous academic year
- 5 consortial faculty or Distinguished Lecturers appointed by the Dean
- 4 students, one elected annually by and from each undergraduate class of Macaulay Honors College
The Dean serves as the chairperson of the College Council and presides over its meetings.
To vote in in faculty elections for the Macaulay College Council, you must:
- Be full-time faculty
- Teach a Macaulay course in the current academic year
- Have taught a Macaulay course in the previous academic year
To be eligible for election to as a faculty member of the Macaulay College Council, you must:
- Be full-time faculty
- Teach a Macaulay course in the current academic year
- Have taught a Macaulay course in the previous academic year
The Macaulay College Council has one meeting per semester that members are required to attend. Members may also choose to serve on subcommittees, such as the Curriculum Committee and Appointments Committee.
Only full-time faculty members are eligible to be elected and to vote in Macaulay College Council elections.
If you are eligible to vote, you will receive email instructions when the elections open. The elections will be conducted via a secure, online platform that ensures each eligible voter can only vote once.
If a faculty member is elected to the Macaulay College Council, but is unwilling or unable to serve, Macaulay will offer the spot to the person with the next highest number of votes, and so on until all 10 spots are filled.
It is not a conflict of interest to serve on your home campus and at Macaulay.
Your votes are entirely at your own discretion, and you are welcome to vote for yourself! You may vote for up to 10 candidates, but that is a limit, not a requirement.
