Library E-Resource & Content Management System
We developed our own system to manage an entire library website and all its e-resources. The first version was called the SRMS – Subject Resource Management System – and was developed in 2004, and has been updated regularly since. The software is used by 8 CUNY libraries to manage their websites and e-resources, and won the Ribaudo Award for technology innovation in 2010. We have built numerous additional modules that handle various functions we need, such as room booking and management, timesheet management, inventory management, directories, a Find-A-Book module that allows users to click on a call number and pull up a map showing a book’s exact location, and much more. The entire system is now called 4MyLibrary. In 2012, we began offering it as a hosted service, whereby we worked with our first client, the Guttman Community College, to create their site and host it, handling all technical issues and support, on Brooklyn College Library servers. The system has worked beautifully since its inception, and allows Guttman to modify their own site and manage their e-resources without having to hire additional technical staff. Guttman pays a small monthly fee for server space and support.
