Anisha Lall is a Guyanese-American who is currently a freshman at Queens College. She is undecided in terms of major, but will most likely be double majoring in Psychology and Urban Studies and minoring in Honors in the Social Sciences. Her dream job is to work in the United Nations.

Floril Thomas is a freshman Macaulay Honors Student at Queens College. She is working towards a major in Neuroscience and Psychology. She enjoys working with kids and wants to pursue a career involving them. In her free time, she likes to read, cook, and spend time with family.

 

Frances Raybaud is a freshman who is a Political Science and French major. She loves writing, reading the classics (and occasional YA novel), and going to the ocean. She is a dual citizen of France & America. Her main distinguishing feature is at least a spot of green in any outfit.

 

Gabrielle Monge is a Macaulay Honors freshman at Queens College. She is working towards an undergraduate degree in Communication and Science Disorders with hopes of becoming a Speech Pathologist. Gabrielle is also pursuing a minor in Business and Liberal Arts. She enjoys singing and playing the ukulele.

 

Greg Maghakian is a Macaulay Honors freshman at Queens College. He is working towards a B.A. degree in Economics and Political Science, with a minor in Urban Studies and Honors in the Social Sciences. Greg hopes to work in the government sector of local urban planning or housing. His larger aspirations are to become a congressman or president someday.

 

Inhea Jun who typically goes by Angela is a freshman working towards a B.S. in Computer Science. Growing up, she always had a passion for technology and hopes to one day become a programmer. Her hobbies include watching sci-fi and action movies/TV shows and reading novels.

 

Isaac Gordon is a Macaulay Honors student at Queens College. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Computer Science, with a minor in Business and Liberal Arts. Isaac enjoys logical and mathematical processes. He plans to study abroad in Melbourne, Australia to learn about technological demand in another hemisphere. He enjoys playing guitar.

 

Izabela Konopko is a 18-year-old Polish-American and a first year Macaulay Honors student at Queens College. She is currently still undeclared in terms of major. However, she has a huge passion for law and the social sciences. Izabela loves to work with kids and hopes to pursue that in the future.

 

Jared Cox is a student at Queens College. His current major is Media Studies with minors in Business, Graphic Design, and Psychology. Jared hopes to pursue a career in marketing and advertising. Jared always had a strong passion for film and business and for this reason, he wishes to pursue a career in these fields.

 

Jessica Bong is a Macaulay Honors scholar at Queens College. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, while minoring in Business and Liberal Arts and Studio Art. She hopes to work in the medical field. Her hobbies include watching horror movies/shows, eating new food (especially desserts!) and painting nature landscapes.

 

Karen Lopez is a Macaulay Honors freshman at Queens College who is currently undecided on a major but has recently found an interest in Urban Studies and Economics. She is very involved in her church which plays a major role in who she is. Karen enjoys going for long runs and playing soccer with her friends.

 

Kavita Sawh is a current Macaulay Honors freshman at Queens College. Her intended majors are Economics and Urban Studies with a minor in Business and Liberal Arts. She is a member of the QC Guyanese Student Association, QC Student Association and the secretary of the Hindu Student Association. She aspires to work in public health.

 

Kristen Cournane is a Macaulay Honors freshman at Queens College. She hopes to pursue a major in Accounting and minors in Mathematics and Business and Liberal Arts. During her free time, she likes to take dance classes. Kristen is in the Macaulay Ambassadors program and the Macaulay Scholars Council.

 

Matt Wysocki is a Macaulay Honors College student at Queens College. His current major is Neuroscience while on the pre-med track, with minors in Chemistry and HMNS. He is bilingual and enjoys experiencing new cultures and learning what is out there in the world. He hopes to study abroad in either Australia, Italy, or Greece.

 

Nicole Cavallo is a freshman in the Macaulay Honors College at Queens College. She hasn’t declared a major yet but is thinking about pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry with a minor in Business and Liberal Arts (BALA) and a minor in the Honors in Maths and Natural Sciences (HMNS). Her hobbies include reading and cooking.

 

Paraskevi Roussos is a freshman Macaulay Honors student at Queens College. She is pursuing a degree in Linguistics and Communications Disorders with a minor in Psychology and Honors in the Social Sciences. She hopes to work in a school as a Speech Pathologist in the future. She enjoys listening to music and traveling.

 

Rebekah Suh is a Macaulay Honors freshman at Queens College. Currently undecided in what major to pursue, she is filling the uncertainty with multiple history classes. Her hobbies include watching anime and reading manga, playing indie games, and sleeping. When feeling more active she likes to go karaoke and bowling.

 

Sarah Ginsberg is a Macaulay Honors student at Queens College. She is currently pursuing a B.A. in Psychology. She is very passionate about fitness and health and her passion for living this way led her to become a certified personal trainer. She is passionate about singing, listening to music, cooking, and painting.

 

Selena Bermeo is a Macaulay Honors student at Queens College. She is a freshman who is working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She hopes to one day become a teacher and inspire other students to pursue college careers. She enjoys reading, taking photographs and listening to music.

 

Shahrin Azim is a freshman student at Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Queens College. She is planning to major in Neuroscience/Biology and minor in Environmental Studies. In her free time, she loves spending time with friends and family, exploring different cultures through food, and reading.

 

Shemika Sandy is a Macaulay Honors Scholar at Queens College. She is undeclared in terms of major but knows it will be in the social sciences. She has a love for traveling, and hopes to study abroad in England. She enjoys reading riveting books, and baking creative, delicious goods.

 

Steven Zaslowsky is a student at Macaulay Honors College at Queens College. He is a current freshman with no declared major. However, he is leaning towards majoring in Computer Science. In his free time he tries to play as many sports as he can, particularly hockey, basketball, and golf.

Course Professor: 

Dr. Christos P. Ioannides is a political scientist whose work revolves around ethnicity and the Greek-American community along with the study of ethnicity and politics in the Eastern Mediterranean. As Director of the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at Queens College, his service to the broader community includes a multifaceted outreach program.

Caroline Erb-Medina is a Senior Instructional Technology Fellow at the Macaulay Honors College, Queens College campus. She is also a doctoral candidate in Sociology at the Graduate Center, CUNY.
