From the initial installation of Greek institutions until now, the number of these formations has greatly blossomed over the years. The Greeks in Astoria have established several ethnic and community as well as philanthropic and healthcare institutions that work to unify and uphold their heritage and traditions. In a country where distinct cultures and backgrounds can fall prey to the “melting pot” ideal, the Greek Orthodox Church and school (education) serve as vital instruments that connect the Greeks in Astoria to their homeland. Both of these establishments work hand-in-hand to provide Greeks with a well-rounded perspective of both their Greek roots and American residencies.
