Eilperin, Juliet. “Colleges Compete to Shrink Their Mark On the Environment.” Washington Post. The Washington Post, 26 June 2005. Web. 14 Oct. 2012. <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/25/AR2005062501273.html>.

This is an article written by Juliet Eilperin, a journalist for the Washington Post. The overall purpose of this article is to bring awareness to the sustainability movement going on in America, particularly at Berea College, but also in different schools, businesses, and communities. Eilperin goes into great detail about the different ideas that have been executed at Berea, including their most radical idea, which is called Ecovillage. It is important for readers to learn about projects such as Ecovillage, which is a small community that is built around green principles and houses Berea students, faculty, and classrooms. This is because it allows others to see a great idea that may revolutionize the way schools and companies in general look at sustainability, as it is not very likely that Ecovillage would have gotten much publicity, given how small Berea is. The article is very limited, however, in that it does not get into many, if any, specifics about how schools plan on continuing their quest toward greater sustainability.
