This article from The Brooklyn Paper is a warning against runoff dumping in the Gowanus Canal. Author Daniel Bush writes that for Gowanus cleanup to begin, the sewer overflow needs to stop. While the title seems biased, the article is factual and fair, citing information such as that the canal dumps 45 million gallons of sewage annually and that Mayor Bloomberg being required to begin a $180 million sewer upgrade in the area. The article’s strengths are that though it catches you with the title, it remains a logical and thought-out piece. The article addresses environmental sustainability and will be very useful in our project as argument for reform in the Gowanus area sewer system.
