Superfund Site Progress Profile

October 22nd, 2012 · No Comments · Gowanus Canal

“Site Progress Profile.” Superfund Information Systems. EPA, 22 Oct. 2012. Web. 22 Oct. 2012. <http://cumulis.epa.gov/supercpad/cursites/csitinfo.cfm?id=0206222>.

This website page is authored by the EPA, a government organization. It is not an article so if there is any bias present it would be in the government’s reporting of the facts, figures, and details surrounding the clean-up of the Gowanus. The site is a very organized profile containing government information on the Gowanus’ progress as a Superfund Site. There are links to a lot of good, factual lists, including an EPA glossary that defines a lot of the government and law oriented terms found in information about the site (good information for the podwalk script). It is a site that is updated often, and will continue to be updated until the entire site clean up is complete (which will take years). The site is a good indicator of how tough it has been to get the Gowanus cleanup initiated, according to the chart shown the Gowanus is still in the “Study and Remedy Selection” Phase, with no physical clean-up being complete. The site lists the “clean-up activities” that have been done – most of them involve issuing notices or investigating PRPs.
