This article by blogger Peter Lehner discusses New York’s recent efforts to combat sewage overflows, the cities greatest cause of water pollution. Lehner is the executive director of the Natural Resources Defense Council and a professor of environmental law at Columbia University Law School. His main point is that green infrastructure is the best way to handle the crippling drainage problems across the country. The article is intended for the general public (as opposed to the scientific community). The author leans strongly in favor of green infrastructure as the best solution. The piece clearly explains the issue and the possible solutions. The article addresses both environmental and social sustainability, touting the merits of green infrastructure not only for pollution reduction but for its low cost and beautification as well. The material asserts its relevancy by providing us potential solutions (and a good way to wrap up the pamphlet/podcast).
