Julia Felsenthal, a features editor for The New York Times’ T Magazine, wrote this article about the Lavender Lake bar located right alongside the infamous Gowanus Canal. The author is really just writing to the public to let them know of the Lavender Lake and its back-story. The article is biased in favor of the bar- it’s really a promotional piece- and makes only one vague comment in reference to the polluted canal. The article is strong in story-telling but weak in details about the bar’s risky location. The article addresses social sustainability, referring to the bar as an economic stimulus and a space that could create a stronger community. The material is relevant because it will give us filler details and something more to say about the Lavender Lake bar.

Cali, make sure you review the annotated bibliography materials under “Resources” because your entries are missing some vital information. For instance, how is this article relevant for a research project and how will you incorporate this into your knowledge of this site?

This is the place we saw on our tour. Sadly, I suspect that it flooded during Sandy begging the question of how we trade off the social, economic, and environmental pillars of sustainability.
