  2. Next Meeting – either May 1st or May 15th; next meeting decided for May 1st, 3pm
  3. Committee Updates: April-June
    1. Academic Affairs

i.     Couldn’t have meeting; have email discussion to create proposal for College Council Curriculum Committee; College Council meeting yesterday – did not have quorum; Curriculum Committee – Seminars 1 & 3, syllabus policy; goals and expectations for seminars; reimagine curriculum; College Council is very student-focused (Kaitlyn)

ii.     Admissions survey for each college; not trying to create central admissions standard; new admissions process for Macaulay – some students get a second choice for campuses; .05 increase in applications (4000+), 2000+ acceptances, colleges interested in more students could go into other pool and consider those who were not accepted; 50/120 responded; very future oriented planning (Thomas)

iii.     Generally, people don’t come off the wait-list; new policy gives options (Amal)

iv.     Allows wait list to be less of a wait-list, remedies disadvantages (Drew)

v.     Lack of communication with students – Macaulay is about making NYC your campus; CUNY’s goal to serve the city

vi.     Common events were supposed to show how cohesive Seminars are

vii.     Do not see Macaulay moving away from the NY focus

viii.     Possibility of a survey? Committee wants figure out direction where it’s going first

i.     Confirmation letters for the events conducted over the past few months

ii.     Discussed rest of year, blueprint for the next year

iii.     Food-based projects; food run, working with different organizations in NYC (Kwame)

i.     MSC website

  1. Looking great; want to get clubs and pubs up there; submitted the website to the ePortfolio

ii.     Macaulay website

  1. Dr. Ugoretz – website is for prospective students, wants to create current student portal in the fall (Kaitlyn)

i.     Cultural Passport Scavenger Hunt

  1. 56 RSVPs; 4 people submitted answers; 2 freshmen from Lehman won – very excited
  2. Change format of the scavenger hunt for next year?
  3. Send survey to people asking why they didn’t actually participate
    1. Actual event to participate in
    2. Alternate event where you do the scavenger hunt in one day
    3. Combine event with exhibition nights?  – Might make it complicated to organize
    4. Make it a strictly Macaulay event

ii.     Common Ground

  1. Success – 90 RSVPs compared to 40 last year; 6 performances, Anthony deejayed
  2. Have a binder to reference contacts for food, equipment, other supplies, for upcoming years

iii.     Arts Night

  1. Meeting last Friday; event is April 29th, 4:30-9:30pm
  2. Submissions – 50 people
  3. A lot of performance submissions; need more paintings and 2D art
  4. Setting up during spring break
  5. Catering – Fairway; nothing too big, reception from 4:30-6pm
  6. Putting together a list of supplies
  7. Bubble Room – vestibule; bubble wrap on the floor, glow in the dark
  8. Curators working on submissions, community service activities (making cards for an organization)
  9. Using all 3 floors: 1st floor – written work, sculptures, 2nd floor – photography, screening room, 3rd floor – workshops

iv.     Spring Formal/Masquerade Ball Updates

  1. Event Location and Date – City College, Sat. May 7th from 7-10pm, faculty dining hall (200-300 people can fit)
  2. Fees – security, room rental, DJ — $800
  3. Food cost — $2000-3000; ticket sales: City requires us to use their food services
  4. USG can help finance us?  – No, it’d need to be open to City students
  5. $19-20 per person for food; $25 single, $40 per couple
  6. Advertising needs to get going – Veronica Shi made a flyer
  7. Campaign can start by Wednesday
  8. Representatives need to be vocal about it
  9. Plug the formal at Arts Night – have a table selling tickets?

10.  Can sell tickets through Honors offices, at Arts Night, sell them at the door

11.  Paper invites?  Another expense

13.  Payments – checks go to Macaulay Honors College Foundation

  1. Olympics Committee

i.     Final Events, Results from Survey Monkey

  1. Prospect Park – whole park has wide open grass fields, everything is conveniently located
  2. Survey Monkey – some sports were left out
  3. Quidditch is difficult to incorporate into the Olympics
  4. Tennis courts cost a lot
  5. Plan for a Quidditch tournament, tennis tournament in the fall
  6. Equipment – USG members (Kwame) from Hunter will need to request it
  7. Need access to survey results
  8. Need to see the boundaries
  9. Have a central Macaulay HQ; floor plan and schedule; posting rules to each game

i.     Jam session/try outs/interest meeting – May 6th: spread the word

ii.     Primary goal – get people interested for next year; get people to play at the spring picnic

i.     Deadline is April 13th for staff to submit articles, will be finished and launched during spring break

  1. Pursuit of Happiness

i.     STEM project – Macaulay student volunteers help with academic enrichment, SAT preparation

ii.     Won contest with Ernst and Young

iii.     Big community service project!

iv.     Get a chapter on each campus

i.     Duane Morris event – 15 people showed up, chose 2 interns; successful!

    1. Expelling of Members – discussion

i.     Sarah – Charter is good the way it is; one or two excuses is fine; if you have commitments on most Sundays, you shouldn’t be on the Council; haven’t seen half of the members in meetings

ii.     Kaitlyn – difference between involvement on campus and MSC; support for the charter and enforcing it, supporting Kate’s plan

iii.     Kwame – shocked; disadvantaged because we adjudicate between seven different campuses; satellites at different schools; limiting students from participating

iv.     Jenna – unprofessionalism in emails; we are a community working together; nasty comments going back and forth

v.     Thomas – stand by enforcing the charter; wasn’t informed on how the email blast was sanctioned and who was sanctioned; miscommunication; intentions were for the benefit of the council and serving the charter

vi.     Meagan – supports current charter; meeting to agree to this new policy; clearly stating what is an excused absence in the charter

vii.     Cathy – Minutes should be sent out on a more timely basis; communication needs to improve

viii.     Kate – communication is very important; delegating responsibilities; administrator to look at these types of emails before these are sent out

ix.     Anthony – undemocratic to kick people out; change the policy to make them meet with other reps from their campus

x.     Joshua – satellite idea is good; at the same time, strongly support charter; have specific meeting time go out with nominations next year

xi.     Amal – support charter; exceptions exist; made a commitment, keep it; Communications Committee is supposed to do this

xii.     Drew – room for going over charter; “flaming, bombing email” – these emails will find their way to administrators; consequences to this; send private

xiii.     Kate – support charter; need to be able to expel members; way it was handled was disappointing; we are representing Macaulay, need to present them professionally; safety net to make sure no mistakes are made in the future; no one needs to be brought out in the open

xiv.     Michal – Matter by which we remove people needs to be straightened out; oversight of miscommunication; contact person directly, have them resign respectfully; not have it in a disgraceful manner

xv.     Kaitlyn – everyone seems to support charter

xvi.     Kwame – students shouldn’t be left out; discouraged; satellite funding

xvii.     David – people who shirk their responsibilities – very disappointing; openings should come mid-year; emails – disrespectful

xviii.     Meagan – can’t have satellite funding for Macaulay events

xix.     Meeting date should be specified; did we specify how we replace members?  Make people open to these meetings

xx.     Kate – no funding for individual colleges to help Macaulay; more communication is needed; reflects on the council and the class

xxi.     Make openness of meetings known; get perspectives from others

xxii.     Anthony – made it clear that people are welcome to come to these meetings; setting up time before elections – agree

xxiii.     Amal – uses funding from Hunter for only Macaulay events; support Kate’s proposal

xxiv.     Runner ups can be made replacements

xxv.     Funding from clubs or satellite organizations – can’t be done at some campuses, because the home campus will not allot the money

i.     Reading of amendments

ii.     Confusion in the procedure for expulsion of members

iii.     Kate – clause “If a representative misses the allotted two meetings per semester, he/she will receive an email from the communications committee that will serve as a warning.  The email will also be sent to their advisor, to inform them of the representative’s actions.”

  2. The email will be sent to the individual student and Associate Student Director
  3. MSC will find out when a representative has been dismissed when a council opening is announced.

iv.     Reasons for missing meetings – what is legitimate?

v.     Members can make a case if they miss two consecutive meetings for their absence…no follow up à expulsion

vi.     Head of IT committee sends a warning to individual (CCing Drew); if you have legitimate reason, tell us; start on a clean slate

vii.     IT Committee will create a set statement to send out for warnings

viii.     Vote to amend to “If a representative misses the allotted two meetings per semester, he/she will receive an email from the communications committee that will serve as a warning. The email will also be sent to the Associate Director of Student Affairs.  If a student wishes to state his/her case, he/she may do so to the Associate Director, who will deem whether the member’s reasons are legitimate.” à passed

  2. Beginning of Macaulay Student Yearbook?

i.     Entourage – 150 pages, all color yearbook, for $36

ii.     Installment plan – 20%: supplies us with software and advisement; 30%: sets the delivery date; match up with the deadline; 50%: with delivery

iii.     Over time, get more discounts

iv.     Online database that will be open to those who join; can submit photos; design team needs to meet; will be trained

v.     Have a team to submit; another design team

vi.     Requires serious on campus participation

vii.     Dean will not front money for the yearbook, due to past failure (Amal)

viii.     Can incorporate fees into new graduation fees?

ix.     See how many Macaulay students will be interested via survey?  Fundraise?

x.     Reps can pitch this idea to home campuses

xi.     Put together a proposal to show us how the yearbook will be organized; make sample pages; then we can consider to make it a club
