Lovers all around the city relished in the unique exhibits offered by MoSex this Valentine’s Day weekend.
In honor of the lovely holiday, MoSex installed new and interactive options for their patrons, including a bouncy house made of breasts that people can jump on, a rock-climbing wall made of genitalia, and exhibits on the general history of the holiday.
Weeks before the event, advertisements posted around the city and subways invited people to come for Valentine’s, drawing in a lot of attention and visitors. Some attendees said that the museum was too crowded, making most of the experience lost or less enjoyable.
“The whole thing was kind of a letdown,” said Nicholas Hatch, who commuted from Connecticut to be there for Valentine’s Day. “You waited in line for over an hour to get into the bouncy house but was ushered out after 30 seconds. It wasn’t worth it.”
Other than the special events for Valentine’s Day, MoSex offers an showcase on porn star Linda Lovelace; exhibits on the sex life of animals, histories of sexual perversions, and “toys”; as well as a gift shop where one can purchase practically anything imaginable. The museum also displays artwork that contributes to the museum’s theme, including works from renowned artists like Picasso.
The Museum of Sex opened in 2002 and has been gaining the attention of tourists and NYC residents ever since. Other museums of sex are located in London, France, and other cities across the world.
“The museum itself is an experience,” said Omar Elkomy, CCNY ’16. “But I don’t know if I’d want to go back.”
NYC’s MoSex is located on 5th Ave and 27th St. It is open seven days a week from 10 AM to 8PM except Friday and Saturday when it closes at 9 PM. The museum offers discounted tickets to students and senior citizens.
