The holiday season has finally arrived, bringing our very well-deserved winter break and all the magic and cheer we look forward to each year! There’s nothing quite like experiencing the holidays in New York City, an iconic destination for celebrating with friends and family. From sparkling lights to classic markets, NYC transforms into a winter wonderland during this time. I’m excited to share some holiday locations that I hope will make your season even more memorable!

Rockefeller Center 

It is no surprise that The Rockefeller Center is at the top of the list.  The 74-foot tree adorned with 50,000 LED lights topped by a Swarovski crystal star that weighs nearly 900 pounds is a New York tradition. But the tree is just the beginning. Beneath the twinkling tree lies the famous Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink, a classic holiday activity that feels like stepping into a scene from a holiday movie. There’s also the Rockefeller Center Angels, a series of stunning sculptures lining the Channel Gardens, creating a beautiful pathway. These 12 wire-sculpted angels, each holding a six-foot-long trumpet, are illuminated with twinkling lights and surrounded by seasonal greenery. The centerpiece of Winter Village is the Bryant Park Ice Skating Rink. This open-air rink is surrounded by lights and the city’s towering skyscrapers. Best of all, it’s free to use if you bring your own skates. The European-inspired market lines the park with over 150 kiosks that feature a curated selection of unique gifts, artisanal foods, and seasonal treats, creating a delightful shopping experience for visitors. Strolling through the market feels like stepping into a cozy holiday village, with the scents of hot cocoa and fresh pastries in the air. 

Radio City Hall 

Another iconic spot is the Radio City Hall, home of the renowned Rockettes. This historic venue hosts its Christmas Spectacular every year, a dazzling showcase of festive music and precise choreography. Chelsea Market 

Located in the Meatpacking District, Chelsea Market transforms into a wonderland with gorgeous holiday lights and a welcoming, energetic environment during the season. The Market is the perfect spot to find unusual holiday presents or indulge in seasonal sweets. It is filled with artisanal shops, gourmet food sellers, and one-of-a-kind boutiques. Food enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice as they can enjoy a variety of different cuisines and holiday-themed snacks, such as freshly prepared empanadas, festive pastries, or a warm cup of cider. Chelsea Market is also packed with Christmas-themed activities and events, such as gingerbread home construction and seasonal concerts. 

Zuccotti Park Christmas Market  

A brand new holiday market in the Financial District is much less crowded than the previously mentioned ones, but you still get those holiday vibes. Despite its smaller size, this market more than makes up for it with its cozy, and unique selection of handcrafted presents, seasonal sweets, and hot chocolate vendors. It’s ideal for anyone who wishes to take in the sights and sounds of Christmas while having a more intimate, calmer holiday experience. This market should be at the top of your list if you’re searching for a place to relax, shop, and take in the season without the crowds.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Met is an essential stop for anyone visiting New York City. The Met offers something for every type of visitor. During the holiday season, the museum becomes even more magical with its Baroque Christmas Tree, a breathtaking centerpiece in the Medieval Wing. This elaborately decorated tree is surrounded by an intricate 18th-century Neapolitan Nativity scene, creating a festive and serene atmosphere that captures the spirit of the season. Aside from the holiday charm, The Met is an ideal winter activity, providing a warm and cozy indoor space to explore on chilly days. 

Ice skating under the Brooklyn Bridge

Ice skating under the Brooklyn Bridge is a must-do affordable holiday experience with breathtaking viewsAdmission is as low as $10 and gives you access to one of New York’s most iconic spots. The skating rink is located in Brooklyn Bridge Park and showcases views of Manhattan’s skyline in tandem with the magnificent arches of the bridge itself. Visitors will feel like they’re in a postcard picture of winter.

NYC Santa’s Winter Wonderland in Winter NY on Pier 15

NYC Santa’s Winter Wonderland at Pier 15 in Winter NYC is a must-visit destination. For just $25, visitors get an incredible experience that includes hot chocolate to keep you warm and a memorable opportunity to meet Santa Claus in person. In addition to seeing Santa, visitors may take in the pier’s stunning views of the city skyline, which make for a lovely setting for holiday pictures.
