In a personal essay reflecting his experiences as a Muslim in New York, Ali Suliman wrote about the sense of pride he felt walking through the colorful streets of Brooklyn and seeing his friends and family dressed in bright saris and thobes, an ankle-length garment. Suliman wrote of the love and sense of community he felt on that day, saying, “That sense of unification amongst a group of people that America had black-sheeped gave us the strength to keep existing in a country that so clearly doesn’t want us here.”
