In contrast to my expectation, many of my interviewees did not find Mother’s Day as a significant holiday. I interviewed people from Chinese, Korean, Greek, Ecuadorean, Indian, Bangladeshi, and Russian background. According to the interviews, most of them either did not know how Mother’s Day is celebrated in their country of origin or did not see major differences in the celebrations. Interestingly enough, celebrations in many parts of the world are very “Americanized.” It seems like the main part of Mother’s Day is gifting. I looked closely into Chinese, Russian, and Korean Mother’s Day celebration.
