Though I mainly focused on Chinese, Korean, Russian Mother’s Day, I also interviewed immigrants from other backgrounds. I included transcriptions of interviews with Dario and Afordity also. Dario’s celebration definitely includes Ecuadorean and Hispanic culture. I never heard of bringing a professional serenader for mothers. I believe, bringing a serenader is not that common in New York City.
Afordity was one of a few interviewees that did not follow the typical American Mother’s Day. She doesn’t go crazy on gifts or flowers. She just enjoys having a quality time with her family.
This is an interview with Toby J.. His parents came from a rural part of India. He talks about how Indian rural culture plays a role. In his celebration, he tries to avoid wasting too much money.
