This past friday I went to visit the Museum of the City of New York. I learned about the history of public safety in New York as well as viewed photographs of different New York locations, focusing on nature in particular. One fact that I learned was in that 1904, there was a huge fire on a ship in which only 110 of 1331 people survived. This was due to the lack of crew being prepared for the event of a fire. Moreover, the lifejackets and life boats that were on board were so old, they could not properly do their function.

 Of the first woman's readings, I found the "bitten nipple" poem the most interesting. This was probably a result of it having such a violently unexpected plot. During the question and answer session, the artist explained that she got the idea to write such poem after having heard the experience from a peer. The story goes that a woman was gang raped by her boyfriend and friends and yet after such a traumatic experience, she continued to be with him. Shocked by this, the artist wrote a poem in which she poses questions on the values a woman stands by.

I love subways. From the graffiti coated hulks of decades past, to the sleek, energy efficient models of today, every subway has a story to tell. Ever since I was a child I've been fascinated with the city and the seemingly infinite amount of possibilities that are presented here every day. New Yorkers have the extraordinary ability to to leap from lily pad to lily pad, each time soaking up a new experience. At the heart of this ability are the subways. My favorite, and most defining aspect of living in New York City is that people can re-invent yourself every time they walk out the door.

 So when I first started writing this blog entry, it was five in the morning and I had just finished watching the movie "Annie Hall" with Woody Allen and Diane Keaton. It is no longer 5 in the morning and after many technical difficulties I am BACK to write this entry for the LAST time.=) Watching "Annie Hall" made me consider the different mediums through which we are exposed to opposing viewpoints.  I realized that humor should be considered an art form. I don't know if it is formally considered one but if it isn't, it should be.
