Carnegie Hall Concert

The concert at Carnegie Hall we went to last Monday was my first concert of that kind. I've been to concerts before but obviously the experinece you get from a concert at Carnegie Hall is way different then the one you get at a Metallica concert. I really enjoyed the concert at Carnegie Hall. I really was unsure whether or not it would interest me. When I walked into the room where the concert was being held, I was suprised that it was so small. I actually really liked the fact that it was a small auditorium. That room was beautiful.

Oriental spices to classical flavors

“Ancient Path Modern Voices” is a festival celebrating Chinese culture organized by Carnegie Hall. Attending it was an experience that changed my perspective on the classical music. I, who am not very fond of traditional music, because as I am not musically educated I do not understand it, liked it. To me, as the music does not have lyrics and most of the time is somewhat slow, it resembles a noise rather than a song. At the same time an oeuvre is not a song but a symphony.

A fairy-tale where everything has its price

As we’ve been all saying since the beginning of this school year New York is a Mecca for arts. Lately, giving a tour of Greenwich Village to my French friend, I got inspired by another example of arts in NYC- store windows.
People become so creative in order to promote their merchandise that they create a form of art in their own genre. It is not only about the clothes they sell or the price they sell it for, but about the brand and its exposition. They use symbols that customers can assimilate with or status they desire to have.

59th street subway

I did not know that i was in for a surprise when I decided to go home for the weekend. I needed to get to the West Side and completely unintentionally I happened to be in the 59th street subway station transferring from the 6 to the Q.  As I turned a corner to walk up a flight of stairs, there it was; a HUGE mural of tiles colored in all of the basic colors. I remembered then that Professor Bergman had posted a blog about a new installment in the 59th St station.

China Festival Music Breakdown

The China Festival at Carnegie Hall was an enjoyable experience. Although I don't play any instruments and the music at the concert wasn't anything that I put on my mp3 player, I was paying close attention to the performers and the way they were playing. The first pianist was boring me a bit in the beginning because he started off slow and somber. Then, suddenly, he hit a very fast "Tom and Jerry" pace. I noticed that he had a look of intense concentration throughout.
