Music to My Ears: Self Expression in the Poetry Event

What was extremely interesting about each poet was their different backgrounds and what influenced them into writing poetry. The first poet, named Khadijah Queen, came to love poetry when she was in her undergraduate college, studying Walt Whitman and Ezra Pound, which I have studied in High School as well.

Poetry Predates Literacy: Macaulay Poetry Reading

Khadijah, Hermine, Jamal, and Natalie. I have never been a great fan of poetry, mainly because of my inability to understand the most profound forms, but these four poets captured my attention from beginning to end. I did not know what to expect before listening to these four poets recite their own and other's readings. Once it began, it proved worth my while to be in attendence. The first poet to speak, and my favorite speaker of them all, was Khadijah Queen.

Muller as Proteus: Quartet

So if I told you that it did not take me absolutely forever to read this document, I would be lying. But truth is, now that I have read and understood the text, I have a better feel for what exactly the context of the "Quartet" is. Or maybe it is better to say what the "Quartet" is not. To begin, it is not a typical theater performance for we have two actors representing four different roles. Moreover, they even switch roles with each other, to the extent of playing opposing genders.

Class Discussion

Yesterdays class discussion got me thinking about many things. When we were discussing whether or not the director of a production is enslaved by the author I immedietly thought no. The author of a production is the author, they have their own interpretations of what they've written. The director is simply basing his production on what the author has written. He may use the authors opinion and may not. Ultimately I think the director can do what he wants with a work. Many times directors create works on their interpretations of wha the author has written.
