Although Latinos currently hold the highest high school drop out rate as an ethnicity (27% of 16-20 year olds), there are signs of hope. Second-generation Dominican students have one of the highest college attainment levels out of all Latino groups in the city
For example, in 2000, 22% of US born Dominican people have acquired a college education, compared to only 12% and 13% of Mexicans and Puerto Ricans. Not only that, but Dominican high school students in New York City have the highest high school retention rates out of all Latino groups.
