Impact of Oceanic Heat Content and CO2 Levels on the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef, which is located on the north-east coast of Australia is among the many coral reef systems all over the world that have become threatened ecosystems. Due to the changes in overall physical and chemical aspects of the ocean, the overall sea surface temperature has generally increased, causing coral bleaching, including a decline in calcification caused by ocean acidification.

The presence of coral reefs around the world is decreasing at a significant rate in response to coral bleaching caused by rising ocean temperatures, which is ultimately caused by pollution and climate change. For our project, we wanted to share this information! As inhabitants of this earth, we fail to realize or even more so acknowledge, that the daily lifestyle choices that we make impact our planet. We know that there’s a problem, what’s causing it, and what the solutions are, but we aren’t taking enough action to fix the problem.
