Our project set out to unravel the mysteries of bee biodiversity in urban and suburban landscapes, focusing on NYC, more specifically Brooklyn, and Nassau County. Motivated by a collective curiosity about the impact of urbanization on wildlife, especially pollinators like bees, we embarked on extensive research and engaged in collaborative discussions to refine our focus. Contrary to our initial expectations, our findings revealed that urban NYC, with its many buildings and bustling streets, surprisingly hosted a more diverse bee population than suburban Nassau County. This discovery challenges conventional notions and underscores the importance of green spaces in urban planning to support thriving ecosystems, encouraging a reevaluation of our relationship with urban environments.
