In this project, I broke down the way New York City is portrayed in the media. I looked at the progression of its depiction — from “Great Gatsby”-esque grandeur to a modern grit– and determined just how realistic it is based on my experience. I focused on Hulu’s 2020 original “High Fidelity” and 2008’s “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” and how a specific subculture was illustrated.

The topic came easy to me because I love film and TV and there is no shortage of content that takes place in the city. It is so common that NYC could even be described as a character itself. In the presentation, I mainly tried to communicate how the setting is what made the stories so great.
