South Beach not @ Florida but @ Staten Island!

Though Florida’s South Beach gets much of the attention, Staten Island’s version can easily compare. Located  on the north shore of the island, the beach is pretty big, with soft sand and clean water. The enviornment is very family-orientated and friendly. The looming Verrazano Bridge makes swimmers feel as if they are right under it.

Parallel to the shoreline, is a boardwalk built under FDR’s new deal. It stretches from the Verrazano bridge to Midland beach. It is usually populated by ardent joggers as well as people who just come for a stroll or to sit and watch the water. Conversations lift in the air and laughter is heard. Families are drawn to the boardwalk, especially on summer nights, because the kids can run around and play while their parents can relax and watch the sunset, all in the fresh, salty air.

The Boardwalk Cafe boasts all of the American favorites–>Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Ice Cream, Ices & more. There are almost always long lines, but the food is worth it! Little kids holding ice cream cones with scoops precariously tipping over is my favorite sight!

Parallel to the boardwalk, and on ground level, is a paved course for rollerladers and bikers. This pathway stretches even farther than the boardwalk and provides for less traffic on the level ahead. People are very polite and beep their horns friendly as they pass eachother buy. In some parts, these athletes find themselves riding by beautiful vegetation.

The central entrance to the South Beach and boardwalk is on Sand Lane. Visitors are welcomed by a fountain of dolphins. The fun statue characterizes the area and makes it impossible to miss. Infact, locals have come to set their meeting place “at the dolphins.”
