eLearning Institute
In 2010 our VP of Academic Affairs (Provost) formed and funded a campus eLearning Advisory Group consisting of faculty, support personnel, and administrators. This group established the eLearning Institute for faculty, beginning with two intensive weeks of hands-on multimedia summer workshops (a boot-camp), continuing with course development throughout the following semester, and culminating with teaching and continued course development during the next two semesters (a three-semester commitment for all involved). Throughout this time faculty members work closely with an assigned Faculty Mentor, developing and measuring their course against the nationally recognized Quality Matters rubric. Additional support is provided by the Academic Computing Center in the form of follow-up pedagogy and technology workshops covering existing and emerging instructional technologies, online workshops and support, one-on-one support, and, when requested, assistance in the classroom.
To date 90 faculty members have completed the eLearning Institute Training via seven cohorts from Summer 2010 thru Summer 2014. In June of 2015 we will conduct Cohort VIII, bringing the number of faculty online course developers to over 100.
