It’s not often that a web series is produced by a university student, at least not a series as good as the one directed and written by Macaulay’s own Rachel Finley, City ’16. On March 8th, in the crowded viewing room at the Macaulay building, the Puffy Slick’s team aired the first two episodes of their web series to resounding applause. True to all the hype, Puffy Slick’s Open Mic Night did not disappoint, and the night ended on a high note for most of the attendees.
But what’s all the excitement about? The series focuses on the lives of “Mackleby College” students working behind the scenes at an open mic facility. However, as most students find themselves to be at some point, the characters in this narrative comedy series are next to clueless as to what they’re doing with their lives. Complete with socially awkward geniuses and fashionista divas, the series promises to be a sidesplitter for the next few weeks. When I caught up with Rachel Finley after the premiere, she said, “When we first started shooting, we were a mess. We didn’t know each other or how to work the equipment, but we had a comedic vision and after a few days of shooting, our technical skills caught up.”
The episodes themselves are short, sweet, and hilarious, with each of the 12 episodes running for about six to eight minutes. A new episode airs every Wednesday from March 12th onwards at 12 p.m. on their YouTube channel. Check it out!
